Project Overview

POP Austin debuted the city’s first international, interactive light show titled “Illumination”, working with Living Proof Creative to create an immersive video website for a dynamic preview of the spectacular installations. The site also featured an e-commerce section where art collectors could browse and purchase POP Austin’s fine art inventory. Living Proof Creative also equipped the live exhibition with interactive tablets for each light installation, featuring descriptions of the artist’s history.

Challenges

POP Austin required digital solutions for both marketing and sales that matched the innovation and spectacle of its international light art exhibitions. The website had to capture the immersive, art-forward feel of the installations while functioning as a virtual gallery that appealed to a global audience. It also required a secure and scalable eCommerce system to manage the sale of unique, high-value art to global collectors. The live event experience presented its own challenge, as the vast dark space inhibited visibility of each artist’s statement, making it essential to design a solution that allowed visitors to engage meaningfully with the work.

Solutions

Living Proof Creative began by designing a visually rich, video-driven website that functioned as both an immersive preview and a virtual gallery for POP Austin’s exhibitions. The site struck a balance between visual impact and functionality, dynamically showcasing the installations to mirror the experience of a physical art space. To support global art sales, the team integrated a flexible, open-source eCommerce platform capable of handling the vast collection of unique, high-value works of art with ease and security. For the live exhibition, the team designed an app for interactive tablets featuring the artist’s bios and statements, which were included alongside every work of art, thereby solving the visibility issue in the darkened event space.
