Project Overview

The University of Texas Title IX Department website is a primary portal for those seeking information or support in the face of sexual harassment, sexual discrimination, exploitation, and intimidation. Living Proof Creative worked closely with the Title IX Leadership and staff to create a site that is accessible to all, especially those in crisis. The website is the embodiment of the University’s mission to create and maintain an educational environment in which all students, faculty, and staff can learn, work, and thrive.

Challenges

Given the sensitive nature of users’ visits, the website needed to be simple, concise, and easy to navigate. The last thing anyone in crisis needs is difficult-to-access information and help. The new website also needed to present a large volume of sensitive content, including guidelines, FAQs, stats, and policies, without overwhelming users. Furthermore, accessibility compliance was non-negotiable, so the new interface had to support diverse needs, including screen readers and other assistive technologies. And finally, the content management system (CMS) needed to be easy enough for internal teams to manage frequent updates without technical support.

Solutions

To address all of these needs, the Living Proof Creative design team set out to create a website with a streamlined and consistent architecture, so navigation was intuitive and seamless for users. This included thoughtfully dividing each page with tabbed navigation to clearly separate topics, so users can search and browse without feeling overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information. The interface was also built in strict compliance with UT’s web accessibility standards, making it universally navigable for all users. The designers also integrated a user-friendly content management system, enabling them to publish updates promptly, especially important when policies, procedures, or resources change. The site was also designed to perform flawlessly across devices, so access is always available and clear for those in need.
